Dr. Jesse Contovasilis is a New York State board certified psychiatrist who provides both pharmacologic and psycho-therapeutic treatments to adults with psychiatric disorders.
He attended college at The Johns Hopkins University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received his bachelor’s degree in psychology. He received both his medical degree and his degree is psychiatry from The Stony Brook University School of Medicine where he currently holds faculty appointments in both the Department of Psychiatry as well as in the School of Medicine, where he gives lectures on anxiety disorders, ADHD, and neurology.
In addition to his appointments at The Stony Brook University School of Medicine he is also on staff at Huntington Hospital, where he had been running the Department of Psychiatry’s consult service until he resigned in 2015 to pursue his private practice full time. He does, however, still evaluate and treat psychiatric patients there on a per diem basis.
While he enjoys lecturing and working at the hospital his primary focus is on his full time outpatient private practice located in Northport, where he evaluates and treats all manners of psychiatric illness, and specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and phobic disorders.
His general approach to treatment centers around the importance of seeing each person as unique, empowering them through education, helping them understand their symptoms, and reinforcing the significant adjunctive role psychotherapy can play in the healing process.
