Dr. Yael Aboulafia received her Doctorate in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Binghamton University. Dr. Aboulafia specializes in psychotherapy and assessment with children, adolescents, and young adults utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral approach to treatment. Her breadth of experience includes working in schools, clinics, counseling centers, and hospitals. Dr. Aboulafia's clinical training includes an APA accredited clinical internship at the Child and Family Institute of St. Luke's- Roosevelt Hospital Center. Having worked in the outpatient department, Dr. Aboulafia provided individual, group, and family psychotherapy to a multicultural population of children, adolescents, and their families living in New York City. She completed rotations in infant assessment and worked in an adolescent day treatment program, where she provided individual and group Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), substance use treatment, and crisis intervention services.
In addition to being one of TERRAP's child and adolescent psychologists, Dr. Aboulafia is also employed as a certified School Psychologist. Her special interests include: Anxiety and Mood Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), behavior modification, social skills training, psychological testing (including cognitive assessment, academic achievement, personality assessment, social and emotional evaluation), stress and anger management, ADHD, and PTSD. Dr. Aboulafia possesses a tremendous amount of patience, trustworthiness, professionalism, and respect for patient confidentiality. Her warm, positive, and empathic personality style allows her to easily establish a strong therapeutic alliance with a diverse range of patients.
