Dr. Timothy McGowan received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the acclaimed Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University. Dr. McGowen has had extensive experience in diverse clinical settings where he has provided psychotherapeutic interventions and clinical assessments that conform with all best practices. While he has helped many people across a diverse age range and clinical presentations, he has particularly focused on, and found most rewarding, his work with people with anxiety and depressive disorders and helping people cope better with chronic health conditions. Working with couples to help them overcome relationship issues is another passion that he has been specifically trained in and effective with.
Dr. McGowan's approaches psychotherapy from a psychodynamic framework, but he works to integrate a variety of cognitive and behavioral skills, and techniques. He values the integrative process of understanding a person within their larger system of family and culture, and therefore provides a unique treatment plan based on the needs of each individual patient. Dr. McGowan provides an empathetic, supportive and collaborative environment that facilitates positive change, growth, and optimum health.
